Watermelon Juice Relieves Muscle Sorenes

A recent study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry has shown encouraging evidence that watermelon juice may have healing powers when it comes to sore muscles.

In the small study, researchers gave seven athletes plain

 watermelon juice, watermelon juice enriched with an amino acid called L-citrulline or a placebo drink before bouts of intense exercise. L-citrulline has been used as a supplement for many years. It helps boost blood flow to the muscles, allowing them to receive more oxygen and thus repair the muscles faster, says study author Encarna Aguayo, PhD, associate professor of food technology at the Technical University of Cartagena.
The athletes reported less muscle soreness on the days they drank both the plain and the enriched watermelon juice. Both were shown to help reduce muscle soreness and heart rate recovery 24 hours post-exercise.
